Welcome to the Residence Community Ranking Form!

The Residence Community Ranking Form is the first step in the housing application process for the University of Waterloo. Before you can choose your room type, building, or roommates, we will ask you to rank our 4 residence communities in order of preference. Our residence communities include Campus Housing (formerly known as Waterloo Residences) and the University Colleges (St. Jerome’s, St. Paul’s, and Renison).

In mid-June, you will be notified by email about which residence community (Campus Housing or one of the University Colleges) you have been assigned. Your residence community will then invite you to share your preferences including buildings, room-types, roommates, and meal plans. These preferences will be taken into consideration when creating your room assignment. Room assignments are released by email throughout the summer, so be sure to set up your Waterloo email address early and check frequently.

Please note that residence offerings and programs may be impacted by changes to public health guidelines. We will provide updates on any changes to our residence offerings or policies as they develop.

Before you start this form, note the following:
  • It is important to learn more about what Campus Housing and the University College communities (St. Jerome’s, St. Paul’s and Renison) have to offer, so that you can make informed decisions.
  • Submit the $500 housing deposit only after you are certain that you will be attending the University of Waterloo. The housing deposit is typically non-refundable but if you are no longer able to come to campus for fall 2021, we will refund your $500 housing deposit. If you are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, you must notify Campus Housing by June 7, 2021 to receive your housing deposit refund. Study permit students can receive their deposit refund at any time before moving into residence. Visit our withdrawals and cancellation page for more information about refunds and credits. Note that requesting a refund cancels your residence guarantee for two terms and you will not be guaranteed space on campus in the winter or spring.
  • Your community preferences will be saved once you submit the $500 housing deposit. You can adjust your preferences as many times as you like until the deadline on June 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
  • If you are bringing a spouse and/or child to live with you, do not fill out this form. Please contact Campus Housing or St. Paul’s University College.
  • To view a previous page, please use your browser's back button.
  • The form will time out if left open for too long, but you can always log back in and reselect your preferences.
The Residence Community Ranking Form has six steps:
  1. Tell us who you are: Log into the form with your UWaterloo student ID number and birthdate.
  2. Choose a Living-Learning Community or Academic Cluster (optional): Indicate if you would prefer additional academic support in residence. This is not required and not all academic programs offer this option.
  3. Rank the residence communities: Rank Campus Housing, St. Jerome’s, St. Paul’s, and Renison from 1 to 4 in order of preference. Note: Students that select a Campus Housing Living-Learning Community or Academic Cluster will skip this step.
  4. Confirm your gender: Review your selected gender (based on your OUAC profile) and let us know if any changes are required.
  5. Learn more about the Accessible Housing process: Submit the required documents by the deadline if you need housing accommodations.
  6. Submit your $500 housing deposit: Pay by credit card, certified cheque, or money order by the deadline of June 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time.
Other important notes:
  • This process is not first-come, first-served. All students who submit their Residence Community Ranking Form and housing deposit by the deadline, are guaranteed a space in one of our residences.
  • Every effort is made to accommodate students in their preferred choice, however, depending on demand, specific preferences cannot always be accommodated and we do not guarantee that you will be placed in your first, second or even third choice.
  • Please be prepared to be assigned to any of our residence communities (Campus Housing, St. Jerome’s, St. Paul’s, or Renison).
